Surgery for a Furry Friend-Ryu's Road to Recovery

Hi everyone,

We are Krupa and Amar. We are fundraising for Liver Shunt Surgery, for our beloved Yorkie, Ryu.

A little while ago Ryu was straining to wee, so we took him to the vet and they said it could be a urine infection, for which he was given antibiotics for a week.

He finished the course of antibiotics and 10 days later he did a wee that was very red. We took him to the vet straight away. They did a blood test and found he has an enzyme called ATP in his blood and low cholesterol. The vet predicted that there was a liver issue and referred us to a specialist.

We saw the specialist recently and she predicted he has a liver shunt which causes bladder stones. Ryu then had a CT scan that showed this is precisely what he has. He was in fact, born with this condition.

The next step is medication and special food and in a month's time to have surgery to remove the bladder stone (it is too big to dissolve) and correct the liver so he can recover and live normally.

The reason we need the funds is due to the limit of his insurance being taken up. We were advised of a certain limit for his age and size, which was used for his blood test and CT scan. It will not cover his surgery.

As he needs the surgery immediately, we are struggling to cover the cost. We understand that we are living in a cost-of-living crisis and we would really appreciate all the help we can get, however small.

Ryu is a huge part of our lives. He is not just a dog, but a solid member of our family. We just want him to get better.
