Surgery for PPP Pup Thursday

UPDATE! One Surgery Down, One To Go!

Our sweet boy Thursday had a very successful first surgery!!!! The surgeon is absolutely thrilled with how it went, and his recovery is going beautifully. The only issue now is the other leg is experiencing muscle atrophy due to the weakness in that side. The surgeon is recommending having the other surgery ASAP.

We have tentatively booked his surgery for October 3rd, 2023. And as much as we don’t want to keep asking, we need your help again!! We need to raise $5650, and that doesn’t even include aftercare. We really appreciate all the continued support!

UPDATE

This week Thursday was able to get his surgical consultation. Unfortunately, it wasn’t good news.... What was originally thought to be a torn ACL is actually a patella luxation in both knees.
The surgery needed to correct his knees will be double the amount we anticipated. We do not have enough funds to cover his surgery right now. With the long recovery ahead, and the amount of pain he is in, we need to do it ASAP.

The surgery is very intense, so our vets want to do a CT scan prior to surgery. Often times in large dogs they have to cut and rotate the femur and or tibia to stabilize the patella. They believe this will be the case for Thursday.

Because of his size, and the aftercare he will need, they are going to do one knee at a time. It’s going to be a long road ahead for our sweet boy but we are so fortunate to have amazing fosters and volunteers to help him through his recovery.

Thursday has been on pain meds for two months. You can see he’s in a lot of pain. He has problems walking up more than 2 steps. He can’t get on the bed or couch. He can barely get up out of his dog bed. He doesn’t play with his dog friends and only goes outside to pee. This is not the life we envision for this big puddle of love.

Without this surgery, Thursday will be suffering in constant pain and have no quality of life. Being a non-profit, we are unfortunately not in the position where we are able to pay for a $13k surgery.

We desperately need help from our incredible PPP community. Nothing is too small.

PLEASE SHARE and give Thursday the amazing life he deserves!❤️

Please help our Potcake Thursday get the knee surgery he needs to live a pain-free life!

Thursday came with his litter mates to Potcake Puppy Palace last year. The orphans were bottle fed by our PPP Team and had been at the shelter until they got a flight to Canada a few weeks ago.

Since Thursday arrived in Canada we have been working on diagnosing why he’s in so much pain and not moving around comfortably. He was sedated yesterday to do more tests and it was confirmed that Thursday has a torn ACL. He’s on daily pain meds and without them, he cannot get up and isn’t active. This is not the life we had hoped for for this lovely old soul; this big floppy, cuddly boy deserves a pain-free life.

We are currently waiting to get into the orthopedic surgeon to start the process of fixing his knee and then it will be a long road to recovery. The funds will go to the cost of diagnosing, the CCL surgery, and any rehab required after the surgery. Once all of this is done, the prognosis is good for a normal life for our sweet Thursday.
