Surgery for Serena

Hi, my name is Geraldine Chavez.

I have fostered with Cincinnati Animal CARE since the summer of 2021. I had fostered and successfully contributed to finding new homes for 8 pups until Serena came into my life. She was different. She was the happiest, most smiley pocket pittie I had ever met. Her little butt was always wagging. She loved everyone and everything and the best part, Santiago loved her too. Santiago is my spicy little labroodle who has been a great sport when it comes to fostering, but who definitely did not make it easy. We fell in love and when decision day came, I emailed them with an enthusiastic YES! I now had a rescue, overbred and under loved pocket pittie who I promised to take care of. Her story isn’t complete and I honestly would rather not know, but what is known is that her body was used and abused by people who only cared about a buck. Her body shows how much she has been through, but from the moment I saw her, I told her she was beautiful. Serena had two visible masses on her body and I knew that the potential for something negative to be in her body was possible, but I could not let that stop me. Even after the adoption went through, I fostered two more pups and currently have foster number 12 sleeping in my room.

I had to wait for her to be spayed, and finally it was time for me to take her to my vet. They did biopsies on her lovely lady lumps and they came back as mast cell tumors. I was devastated. I cried and cried and took the following day off work. After all she had been through ? And now this?

I immediately scheduled a visit with oncology because I don’t play about my babies. We left the visit today. I opted for an ultrasound and they discovered three more mast cell tumors that need removal bringing the total to five. They also found inflamed and swollen tissue in her uterus that they think was leftover from a incomplete spay.

The minimum cost for everything is $4,000. The maximum is $9,000. I am asking for whatever people feel comfortable with and I will figure out the rest. I am applying for care credit and I do have Venmo, PayPal and cashapp if that feels better for anyone.
