Queso's long road to recovery

~3.5 months post surgery: Queso continues to heal wonderfully and the cast officially comes off on Wednesday! It will be a slow transition into getting back into 'chasing the ball' shape but the end is near!
5.5 weeks post surgery: 3rd check-up came with a cast that resembles hot dog buns around his leg. He has developed an open wound from rubbing on his previous cast so the vet wants to keep that area open to heal the wound and provide better circulation to hopefully cut down on the swelling in his paw. We are still an estimated 4-8 weeks out.
3.5 weeks post surgery: Queso's second checkup went well and he was deemed 'patient of the day'. The spaces between the pins holding his leg together were cleaned and there is no sign of infection. He does have a sore where the cast was rubbing which should heal with antibiotic ointment. His new cast is shorter to expose his paw and does not include a splint. His paw is very swollen from lack of blood flow... it should return to normal size as he begins to put weight on it. The vet still is not sure if he will ever have 100% feeling in that paw. He still needs to be heavily sedated everyday. His next checkup will be in another 2 weeks and we are hoping to do an X-ray to see how his bones are healing and get a better timeline as to when he can be cast free.
2 weeks post surgery: Cast has been changed once so far. Leg is still pretty swollen but no signs of infection!
*UPDATE: Surgery was successful. He has multiple pins going through his leg that stick out on either side and will need to be surgically extracted in a couple months depending on how well he is healing. At least another x-ray will need to be done along with multiple bandage changes.*
Hi. It's JJ. Mom of Queso dog. Saturday night March 2nd he was hit by a snowboarder in a total freak accident. He flipped into the air and started gushing blood immediately from his left leg.
Queso has torn muscles and tendons along with an artery that was cut very badly. His radius and ulna in that leg are broken and he needs surgery along with intensive after care.
So with that said I really need some help. Thank you in advance while Cheese Dog and I take our next adventure together.
