Hello to all reading this! My name is Alan Ray; I am a 28-year-old living in Southern California. I am a Product Manager for a software company by day and a girls competitive gymnastics coach by night.
Backstory
It's difficult to find a place to start this story because I don't even fully remember how it all started. I vaguely recall driving to work Monday morning (Sept. 17th) but being completely on auto-pilot. I didn't know where I was going or what I was doing, just that I needed to do it. When I got to work I couldn't remember passwords or tasks or anything from the previous three days. At the time I thought I just had the flu or something, but I was wrong. Eventually I went to my doctor to explain the symptoms and was told that I had apparently suffered a seizure over the weekend and was then immediately instructed to go to the ER, where I had a CAT scan and MRI of my head.
On September 19th I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Two days later I was undergoing brain surgery.
Shortly after my surgery I learned that my tumor was a cancerous grade III anaplastic astrocytoma. The MRIs have shown that the doctors were able to get out most of the tumor, but these types of cancers have a tendency to return. I have been put on a regimen of chemotherapy drugs and radiation treatments in hopes of killing off as many remaining cancer cells as possible. Since my diagnosis, my life has become a never-ending series of MRI's, doctor appointments, and treatments, all while trying to maintain a stable work schedule.
Costs
Those that know me know that asking for help is something that is not easy for me to do, but it has become clear to me that despite my best efforts, I can not handle this on my own. While my health insurance has helped immensely, it does not cover everything. The money donated will be used for the surgery and hospital costs, past and future MRI's, chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and prescriptions.

While this has been quite the trying time, I have been greatly supported by my friends and family. There has been so much love and prayers that have been shared with me, and I cannot thank you enough for all the well wishes, cards, food, flowers, and one terrific "Get whale" balloon!
I am so thankful for all the family and friends I have. I really do not think I could of done this without you all. Thank you for everything you have done for me, and thank you to everyone that is helping me out!
