Surgul's New Life In America
Donation protected
We are raising money to help give Surgul a new life in America. Surgul spent 7 years of his life serving the United States in Afghanistan at great risk to himself and his family. He has been in countless firefights, blown up, shot, and even targeted by the taliban for his efforts. Not once has he ever stopped serving our country or been intimidated.
The first time Surgul was shot was while on a mission with a team from 3rd Special Forces Group in the Onkhai Valley on 17 April, 2011. He was shot 3 times in the chest by a PKM. Two of the rounds were stopped by his body armor, but the third round went through his shoulder. As soon as he was able to carry a gun again, he went right back to work.
In the later half of 2012 we began the process of getting him, his wife, and his daughter to America. Shortly after the first round of paperwork was filed, Surgal was once again wounded by enemy fire.
On 11 March 2013, while translating during a mission briefing for another Special Forces team, a member of the local police opened fire from the back a technical with a PKM. Surgul was hit by one round in his left arm, and another round grazed the left side of his face.
Getting Surgul to America has been a long process and took over two years to accomplish. He arrived in America just this month and now we finally have a chance to give back to him. Now that he is here he faces a new set of challenges. While Surgul and his family wait for the chance to work that will be provided by the necessary documents, they are sustaining their needs with meager savings that will only last a month.
Even when he is able to start working, he is starting from scratch, as an immigrant, with no college degree or job experience besides translating. No furniture, no vehicle, no baby crib, and just a few outfits from the clothes they were able to fit in a suitcase. He needs our help.
We have already arranged for a motorcycle to be delivered to him that was donated by a member of a Special Forces team he served with. Another member of that team generously paid for shipping it across the country. While not the perfect vehicle for a family of 3, it will at least provide Surgul with the ability to travel to work.
Any amount you can give will go directly to Surgul in full, and will help him and his family get settled in America.
