Collaborative Jaguar Enthusiasts & GOSH

Jaguars and No Judgements Facebook Group - David Jenkin Surrey to Inverness on a tank of fuel Charity Challenge!

In what I hear you say? Yes that's right 586 miles in a 2007 Jaguar XJR Supercharged bundle of fun! Ridiculous right? Maybe maybe not :-)

To the challenge:

We Jaguar enthusiasts are taking on a Top Gear style challenge to raise money for Great Ormand St Hospital GOSH.

The plan is for David to drive from the BP garage in Banstead, Surrey to Inverness (586 miles) on a single tank of fuel in his 2007 Jaguar XJR.

For those that don't know the car is a 4.2ltr petrol V8 which is Supercharged to 400BHP and normally returns just 15.4mpg.

To complete the challenge David Jenkin our nominated driver will have to return over 32.4 average mpg to even reach the destination goal (at the very least on fumes)

He will set off between 8pm and 9pm on Friday 21st May and expects to arrive at circa 8am the next day in Inverness.

It's a terrific charity and awesome challenge so please folks dig deep, and feel free to call David to offer any messages of support during the night (+44 (0) 7545 755234)

We are also seeking some temporary car decals for the challenge so we can raise yet more awareness of our cause.

Watch this space, this is the first of many challenges and charities we will be supporting.

For those that won't know our family (Mark Atkinson) have a personal connection to GOSH

Our story:
Following almost a year in bed, suffering from debilitating fatigue, joint and muscle pain, and unable to function as a normal 15 year old young man, our eldest son Oliver was finally diagnosed with Hypermobility Syndrome, Muscular Skeletal Disorder, and Chronic Pain Syndrome and referred to GOSH for intensive Physiotherapy and Psychotherapy for pain management on a residential basis for 3 weeks.

As he would need to live in hospital for 3 weeks and that he was 15 this meant that his mum would also need to live at the hospital while he undertook this intensive treatment.

What many people may not realise, is that because of the charitable donations of very kind people like yourselves, GOSH own small apartments in the local area, meaning Mum and Oliver we able to live at the hospital for the entire duration free of charge, removing any stress for Oliver and the whole family as he would not be alone throughout his treatment.

Needless to say the treatment he received, was simply incredible, including Psychotherapy for the parents, to teach us how to manage his diagnosis and long term treatment and exercise strategies when he leaves the care teams.

Well, the young man that entered the hospital, was not the one that came back to us, he had with their help completely turned his life around! His energy levels were through the roof, his joy and spark for life had returned, and I no kid you, he was as strong as an Ox!

Finally we had OUR son back!!
