Surrogacy: Help Kyle and Melissa have a family!
Donation protected
Melissa was diagnosed with cervical cancer 6 years ago, they caught it early and it was very lucky to have been found at all on a routine test. After weighing her options she decided to have a partial hysterectomy, "I wanted it OUT"!
Fast forward a few years and she went to a beautiful destination wedding where she met the love of her life Kyle. They discussed the idea of having a family in the first phone conversation into their long distance relationship. She knew the moment she heard Kyle talk about kids that he was meant to be a dad. From how he is with his nieces & nephews to the social work he has done in the past, anyone can see the kindness, patience and love he has to give.
They always knew it would be hard to have a family. Whether it is with a surrogate, fostering or adoption they knew this would be a difficult path.
After getting engaged in February they started looking into planning a wedding and then the pandemic hit. They took a really hard look at what was important to them. In order to afford both they would need to save a year to pay for the wedding and then start saving for the baby after. When they asked each other what was more important to the other, without hesitation they both wanted a family more than a wedding. Once they had their"why" we planned the best elopement in 21 days. It was absolutely magical.
This has allowed them to start their journey an entire year earlier, so they reached out and sent that first email to a fertility clinic.
After some preliminary testing they were given some lifestyle changes and vitamins and they just finished their retesting and now have the go ahead.
They now have two dilemmas...first trying to find a Surrogate and second the cost. It is going to cost around $50,000 when all is said and done. This was a shock to them as they thought it was going to be half of that. This has been devastating news as now it feels like this might be out of their reach. So far some of the testing has been covered but unfortunately none of the medication, treatment, lawyer fees or screening is covered.
As for the next steps it is a bit of a whirlwind since everything basically needs to be done at once.
They are currently finishing up their remaining tests and screening, which will cost around $3,000 - $5,000.
The cost for the fertility clinic and have Melissa's eggs harvested and fertilized using Kyle's sperm will be $20,000. The estimated cost for the lawyer fees and the contracts are $20,000. The last cost will be the transfer fee of the eggs to the Surrogate are $2,500 per transfer (they are realistically looking at 2 transfers).
Couples pursuing surrogacy face many emotional and psychological challenges. The process is complicated and is a huge undertaking for all individuals involved including the many financial burdens that are associated with it.
Their expected remaining cost of their journey is around $50,000. They have scrimped, saved, gone without, asked family to borrow money and also picked up a second job to fund all the costs so far associated with the process. Completing their family means everything to them.
They have never asked for help with anything until now. Even if it is just a small donation, you will be helping this amazing couple fulfill a life long dream.
Also if you know anyone who is willing to be a Surrogate they would be most grateful. The qualifications are: Age 21-40, healthy, nonsmoker, Someone who has had at least 1 live birth, and is done with pregnancy.
