Immediate relief for our neighbors in Altadena
Donation protected
We are Khalyla and Khawinda Kuhn and Renzo Garibaldi - long time Altadena residents. The Eaton Fire has completely devastated our community -our immediate neighbors have lost their homes. Everything completely burned down.
We are starting this GoFundMe to assist our direct neighbors of who have given us the wonderful gift of belonging. Our homes were spared, it’s only fitting we do everything to help our neighbors survive. Every little bit helps.
To the families of Joyce, El, Jose, Jarvis, Hector, Sophia, Jack, Liliana, Raul, Marike, Quinn, and Pete. We don’t have the right words, but we wanna do right by you.
We will be posting as many updates as we can, and more personal stories from the families as they come in. The funds will be allocated to the families of our neighborhood that have been impacted by this tragedy. The funds will assist towards costs not covered or by insurance or FEMA.
Some stories to share at this time, some from our experiences as our neighbors and some directly from them.
Our neighbors:
El’s Story:
“Lived in Altadena practically my whole life, 43 years. As a single dad I raised my now grown daughter. Her son...my grandson was born and lived in the house till age 4. He is now 13. I remarried and relocated my wife into the house in June 2024. We lost everything except the clothes on our backs.”
Hector’s Story
“Family has lived in Altadena for 13 years with wife Michelle, daughter Brittney, and dog Milo” *Hector takes extra care of the neighborhood, never hesitating to help out.
Pete and family’s Story:
They have lived in Altadena for almost 13 years and this is their first home. It's where they raised their two children Luciano, Gianna, and Chance the Lab for most of their lives. Friends to all the neighbors and always willing to lend a helping hand. In fact, Pete and Eleanor help save a few homes on the block by putting them out with hoses and then buckets of water from the neighbors pool.
Sophia’s Story:
“Hi Miss K!!! Let me give you a hug! How’s the family?” This is our daily encounter with our wonderful Ms. Sophia. Her optimism and positivity extremely contagious, leaving anyone she encounters feel so much better about their day.
Jack’s Story:
There is no mistaking when Jack walks down the street as he is usually followed by a family of crows. He’s helped some of those crows since they were chicks. Jack often walks around our neighborhood stopping by all the neighbors (including their dogs) to check in on them.
As this is a difficult time for so many, we are being patient as these stories trickle in. We hope to add more in the near future.
We appreciate you taking the time you listen to their stories. Thanking you for your kindness. We look forward to announcing even more of our immediate efforts in the community.
With love,
Khalyla, Khawinda, and Renzo
Our fundraisers:
Khalyla Kuhn and Khawinda Kuhn
“As two nervous immigrants coming to this country in the 90s, Altadena became our first home, and we have loved her since. It’s no surprise that we still found our way back to her even after life’s many changes. We will do anything we can to help her back on her feet.” Khalyla is an LA based entrepreneur and small business owner and Khawinda a registered nurse for the City of Los Angeles.
Renzo Garibaldi
“Owning our first home was a dream in itself, but having the privilege of it being in Altadena was a wonderful gift. I love this community so much and I want to see her thrive once again.”
Renzo is an officer for the Los Angeles Police Department for over 13 years.
