Survived home invasion and being shot 6 times

Donation protected
Kind People... on the night of December 23, my brother, DAVID NEWELL, found himself trapped inside his home with 3 men all pointing guns at his head. They beat and pistol-whipped him, threatening to shoot him in the head if he didn’t give them all his money. Ironically, David is a modest person of means. He had no cash available nor any possessions valuable to anyone other than himself. He has been a hair dresser for over 30 years and lives quietly alone with his dog and cats. Being a “58 year old man living alone” apparently convinced the predators he would be easy pickings.

For those who know or have met David, you understand he is a gentle person; the least violent and most sociable person you could hope to encounter. Living alone in a not-so-good neighborhood in Flint, Michigan - he wisely purchased a gun a few years back. That decision (outside God’s mercy) is what allows us to still have him alive today. Having already been beaten and now raising the rage of the predators by not satisfying their desire for money, he was convinced his life was about to quickly end. Through trickery he was able to position himself near his gun, and when the final moments drew near, a gun fight broke out. David’s gun jammed after 2 rounds - but one of the predators fired off several shots as they all scrambled to flee. Miraculously - being shot 6 times, none of the bullets hit any vital organs. He was hit twice in the arm and 4 other times in the legs. His femur bone was shattered but surgery that night installed a steel pin that will not compromise his ability to walk in the future.

(BTW: at least 1 of his 2 shots did hit his target and the perpetrator was forced to seek medical attention. Because David fought back we are hopeful the 3 responsible will be brought to justice.)

As a hairdresser, (who stands all day long) being shot in the arm and legs will prevent my brother from being able to work for at least a month or more. He has no disability insurance and no others means of income. As mentioned, he has very modest expenses... a mortgage and car payment, some credit cards, utilities and food.

If you could find it in your heart and ability to contribute to his support fund, it would go a long way toward helping make my brother whole again. As a family we will do all we can to help him get by... but being just 2 days after the incident we cannot foresee what his recovery expenses may be.

With utter gratitude and appreciation we thank you for ANY assistance you can contribute to David Newell.

sincerely, David’s brothers and sister
