Surviving Coronavirus (COVID-19) Impacts
Greetings from Belize. COVID-19 is just beginning to invade our beautiful country. To date there are two cases, both on the island of Ambergris Caye, which is 95 miles from Leaning Palm Resort. Ambergris Caye is under lockdown to prevent the spread and to track exposure.
Leaning Palm Resort is currently closed, during what is usually our busiest time of the year. We are using this break to undergo necessary maintenance and deep cleaning, all while practicing social distancing and an abundance of sanitizing. We’re thankful for our off-the-beaten-path location that turns out to be ideal for self-isolation as well as for guest relaxation, rest and recovery!
Most of you know that Leaning Palm Resort is a small family-run business operated by Ken and I, with a close group of local Belizean employees. As this pandemic unfolds, we hope to continue to employ our five trusted workers who depend on Leaning Palm Resort to feed their families. We fully expect travel bans to be lifted and Leaning Palm Resort to be operating again within three months.
Several of our past guests and supporters have reached out to offer assistance. We are touched that you are thinking of us during this stressful time. We’ve welcomed the families who have visited us as our own and keep you in our thoughts.
If you are moved to send monetary support our way, we welcome it. Ken and I will see that the funds go to our employees in the form of work compensation. This will keep our extended Belizean family rooted in Gail’s Point and ready to serve you when its safe to do so.
We continue to monitor the situation throughout Belize and the rest of the world. In these last few weeks, we have seen kindness and remarkable fortitude. It is during times like these that generosity and resilience make a difference.
Stay well,
Taunya & Ken
