Surviving Gaza's 2024 Assault: A Family's Struggle
Donation protected
My name is Huda Fuad Haj Salem. In the aftermath of the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza, I found myself navigating through fear and uncertainty, separated from my family who remain in the besieged enclave. As shells rained down and homes crumbled, the anguish of not knowing their fate weighed heavily on my heart.
I managed to flee to Egypt, seeking refuge with my children, but my beloved family, including my father Fuad, a cancer survivor, my resilient mother Fayza, and my sisters Fedaa, Israa, and Aya, along with their children, were left behind, facing the relentless onslaught of war.
Despite enduring immense hardships, my family's resilience knows no bounds. With their homes destroyed and livelihoods shattered, they now struggle to survive amidst the rubble, with dwindling supplies and urgent medical needs. My father's medication is running out, and my younger sister's aspirations for education have been overshadowed by the chaos of war.
My sister Israa, reunited with us after thirteen years of separation abroad, finds herself thrust into the midst of turmoil, caring for her son Mohammed, who grapples with occasional paralysis, and her daughter Mesk, who battles serious health issues.
Financial strain exacerbates their plight, with my father's halted salary adding to the burden. Yet, despite the odds, my sister Fedaa and her husband Ayman selflessly volunteer in hospitals, exemplifying sacrifice and devotion to their community, while supporting their own children, Yumna, Moayad, and Eemad.
My brother Abdullah dreams of a brighter future, but the harsh realities of our circumstances hinder his aspirations for stability and family life.
Amidst the adversity, my family remains my beacon of strength and resilience. But they cannot weather this storm alone. My cousin Khaled, trapped in Gaza City, alongside his wife and children, faces the imminent threat of violence and destruction. I cannot bear the thought of losing him.
So, I implore you, extend a helping hand to my family in their time of need. Let us forge ahead together towards a future filled with hope and humanity.
However, the challenges ahead are daunting. Each family member requires about $6000 to secure exit permits from Gaza, along with visas to seek refuge elsewhere. Additionally, we must ensure their basic needs are met, including temporary shelter, clothing, and sustenance, until they can establish a sustainable livelihood outside Gaza.
I humbly ask for your support in this journey towards a brighter tomorrow. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who have suffered so greatly.
