Surviving the Maui Catastrophe

UPDATE - September 15, 2023

I arrived in Oahu on Friday September 1, 2023 & Koko flew in right after on September 3rd, on a Sunday in a private Sesna plane. We have been working 14-Hour shifts everyday since then, 7-days a week. I turned 40 on September 5th but ended up working on my birthday as well. We are now finally caught up. We called in a 30-day notice with our Maui home and will be permanently relocating to Oahu. In early October we are flying back to Maui to load a container full of house stuff and will ship it to Oahu. Thank you to everyone who reached out and helped us during the most difficult time.

UPDATE - Aug 28, 2023

Due to the lack of work on Maui after the fires, Koko & I have no choice but to relocate to another island. I will hold on to our rental home for as long as possible in hopes that Maui Island will return back to normal soon, and we will be able to return back home, but as of right now it is not for certain.

I want to thank you for thinking of us during this difficult time, and I will be sure to keep you all updated on our progress as things play out.

Dear Friends,

As many of you may now know, our beautiful island of Maui was obliterated by fires which destroyed our 300-year old historic town of Lahaina. This catastrophic unrelenting fire burned down over 2,200 homes & businesses, killed hundreds if not thousands of people, and destroyed thousands of acres of land. This tragedy brought businesses to a complete halt, effecting everyone.

Koko & I have been driving UBER & Lyft for over 8 years on Maui, maintaining a 5-Star rating with over 10,000 rides doing what we love & what we do best, which is serving our community.

Now, Koko & I are going to work everyday, hoping for the best, staying positive, and remaining in faith, but the severity of the situation is becoming more and more dire each day. We sit in the car for hours & hours, waiting for jobs, but no requests come in. Surviving these horrifying fires is going to be a challenge for everyone here.

If you find it in your heart to want to help Koko and I by sending any amount, even if it’s small, we will be forever grateful to you. Any funds we receive will be used for basic necessities to get us through these very challenging times. Koko & I do not want to be forced to leave our island home where Koko was born and raised.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. May God bless you and your family, and may Koko’s wings shine light & love onto you forever & ever!
