Survivor Fleeing Domestic Abuse

The intention of this GoFundMe is to raise money for a woman and mother trying to escape a financially, sexually, and psychologically abusive marriage.

This strong woman has been in a controlling and abusive domestic relationship while primarily being a stay-at-home housewife and now mother for 15 years. She has taken the tremendous step of filing for a protective order at the start of April and is finding the courage and resilience to navigate building a new and independent life for her and her young daughter despite not knowing what the path there looks like.

The local domestic violence shelter is providing legal aid to help obtain a protective order, but she will need fees for a lawyer regarding the divorce and custody. She is also in need of a new engine or a used car, as she is currently unable to work due to her husband taking their only functioning vehicle. She is trying to support a wonderful and brilliant 4-year old daughter who starts kindergarten this fall.

She and her daughter have a safe place to go for the time being, but she will eventually need to find new housing as well. Right now, our focus is the lawyer and transportation for work and childcare.

Domestic violence is often hidden and silent, even to those closest to the victims. I truly believe that everyone knows someone who has experienced a situation like this – whether it be your own sister, neighbor, friend, aunt, mom, or colleague. We, as a community, can end the shame of silence by encouraging and supporting those who find the courage to come forward and start sharing their stories.
