Susan Knutsen Hare Medical Fundraiser

Donation protected
My name is Linda, and this is a fundraiser for Susan Knutsen Hare, my sister. Susan has had a long journey so far and it will continue for quite a while. Her journey began on August 29th, when she fell at home. Her legs went completely out from under her and when the paramedics arrived, it was determined that her blood sugar was registering over five hundred. She was admitted to Jackson County Hospital due to the fall where it was determined she broke two parts of her left leg with one of the breaks occurring behind her left knee replacement. She remained there for several days and then was transferred to Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue. That is where the cover photo was taken. On October 30, she was taken to Mercy hospital in Dubuque where it was determined she had a very severe UTI. After 4 days, she went to Maquoketa Care. She was there until December 14 when she went to Iowa City and was admitted there. She was admitted with hallucinations, UTI, and a condition they could not diagnose. They evaluated her for anything and everything. By the middle of December, she was still hallucinating, as well as having a blood clot in her left leg, no feeling or movement in either leg, or loss of appetite. Along with this, she also has a tumor in her head that is non-cancerous. On December 21st, she had an upper GI and we found out she had a two-and-a-half-inch tumor in her stomach which they removed and sent away for a biopsy. They also did a spinal tap and sent that away. With the holidays, this seemed like it took forever. We got the results back after the holidays and the tumor from her stomach was cancer and the spinal tap was abnormal. So, they put her on a blood thinner for the blood clot, insulin for her diabetes (which has been out of control this whole time) and clamped and cauterized the blood vessels in her stomach. On January 22, she was transferred from Iowa City back to Maquoketa Care. She is continuing to do physical therapy, but this is going to be an exceptionally long road. Insurance will run out on March 19th, and she must pay out of pocket or go home. If she goes home, she will need a hospital bed, a Hoyer lift as she cannot get out of bed or stand on her own, someone to help her 24 hours a day, and a customized wheelchair. For those of you who know Susan, she is a warm and caring daughter, sister, wife, and mother. She has and does everything for everyone and was/is the first to help when needed or even donate food. Asking for help is extremely hard for her but with the medical bills that have already occurred and those to come, we have no choice but to ask for help. As a family, we would appreciate any help anyone can give.

Thank you to all of you who can help. It is so much appreciated.
