Susan Larson Family Fund

I am reaching out on behalf of someone we all know and love – Susan Larson.

We are all familiar with Susan’s humor, zest for fun and strong work ethic.  What many don’t know is that Susan and her family have faced tremendous struggles these last few months, and now they need our help.

Susan was diagnosed with leukemia several years ago.  She didn’t talk about it much – in fact, most people probably were unaware of her condition even while she underwent treatment.  At the same time, her husband, Stewart, lost his business and was unable to find work.   Eventually, they lost their home and were forced to leave Solana Beach.

Nonetheless, Susan and Stewart rolled with the punches, remained positive and continued to trudge forward.   Susan maintained her deep friendships, always willing to meet up and share a laugh.  She continued to work as much as possible to support the family and even volunteered in Dax’s high school while her leukemia was in remission.  Stewart found a job at Home Depot while Susan worked at Home Goods.

Unfortunately, last spring, Susan relapsed and her leukemia advanced quickly.  Between their two jobs, Susan and Stewart were able to hold on financially until Susan could enroll in a program that offered her the treatment she needs.   But luck has not been on their side.

Stewart began suffering from debilitating back pain recently, forcing him to take time off work.  Unfortunately, doctors recently discovered that the cause of Stewart’s back pain is metastatic colon cancer.  Although the doctors are still gathering information, the cancer appears to have spread to Stewart’s liver and spine.  To make matters worse, there is concern that Stewart may have multiple myeloma in addition to the colon cancer.   He is scheduled for surgery next week and obviously unable to work for an indefinite period of time.   The ultimate blow is that Susan informed me today that their landlord is not giving them extra time to gather money for December's rent. If Susan and Stewart don't come up with the money by December 18th, he is starting the eviction process despite the fact that he is aware of their situation.

They need our help.  Susan would never ask for it, but I will.  They are in a dire situation and any amount you can contribute to help their family survive this crisis and the next several months is much appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, kindness and love for our friends, the Larsons.
