HURRICANE IRMA / September 6th, 2017 / ANGUILLA, British West Indies
___________________________________________________________
Although this incredible hurricane did not effect the United States it was a direct hit to the little Caribbean island of Anguilla. Slamming the island with over 220 mph winds / Catagory 5-6.
My dear friend Susan Croft who has lived on the island for so many years was left devastated. Susan is a very well known and loved Photographer / Artist on Anguilla. She relies on tourism to make her living and rebuild what Irma stole from her life. Many would be clients have cancelled their wedding venues and travellers have chosen to visit destinations which have not been impacted by Irma causing a serious financial impact and strain.
The simple things that we all take for granted, like food and water, are so scarce that each day brings new challenges with regard to her basic survival. To make maters worse, Susan has no insurance on her property. She lives alone with her her horse "Dreamer".who was securely situated in a fenced-in area pre-hurricane Irma. The fencing was completely destroyed.
Susan's home was also seriously damaged and remains in disrepair. The 220 MPH winds, shattered mutliple windows, the front doors were torn from their hinges and the heavy wooden gates that secure her home's border were also blown to the ground. Living in a home without doors and windows when it rains it literally pours. Electricity was recenty restored after being without power for over 100 days ! In spite of the fact its been over 5 months since Hurricane Irma hit Anguilla 80% of the island still is without internet and global connections.
Among the destrcution Susan continues to do what she can on her own but progress has come to a halt with no real end in sight. She really needs to have her home put back together ! Roof, windows, doors, and fencing all need repair / replacement so she can gain some normalcy back in her life.
She completely lost her beloved cottage which she would use as her workplace for her photography and art studio.
Susan's Cottage BEFORE Hurricane Irma
Her horse and three dogs are alive and well! It's really unbelievable how her horse survived in her paddock, behind the cottage, and the cottage was totally demolished!
Horse Paddock After:
Please reach out to your friends and family who love and adore Susan, and the people of Anguilla.
A contribution of any denomination will assist in rebuilding her life and regaining her spirit. She is a very proud woman and would NEVER ask this on her own.
Hurricane Irma has robbed so many people on the little island of not only their homes and cars but their sanity...
