Help Support Susanna’s Family After Her Sudden Passing

On December 26th, our dear friend Susanna passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in Seattle. She was a mother, friend, and vibrant part of her community. Her loss has left a hole in all our hearts—but most of all, in the lives of her children.

Susanna’s 12-year-old son, Ev, was left without either parent. His father tragically passed when he was just 6. In the wake of this unimaginable loss, Susanna’s close friends and father's family in Seattle immediately stepped in to care for Ev until his family could arrive.

Within a week, Susanna’s sister and brother-in-law from North Carolina, Ev’s half-sister from Alaska, and the stepmother of Susanna’s 18-year-old daughter came together to support Ev. Within days they had cleaned out her rental home, packed up everything Ev wanted to keep, dumped, and sold the rest of her things, and went to court to get legal custody of Ev.

The financial burden of this effort has been immense. Flights, hotels, Airbnbs, car rentals, gas, dump fees, and other costs quickly added up. Just one family’s expenses exceeded $8,000, and we estimate an additional $1,500–$2,000 from others who stepped in to help.

Plus, there are fees for the school, legal fees, and the unexpected costs of raising another child.

The next step is helping Ev transition to his new life. He has moved to North Carolina to live with his aunt and uncle, who have known him all his life and love him. He will be enrolling in the same private school as their children—a loving, supportive community where he can begin to heal.
