Susan's hidden heroes project

In Memory of Susan Izzard...
It all started with Captain Fry…who was found in a village church and under a Wellingtonia tree…
“What can we find out about the man who served at Waterloo?” Susan
It was Susan’s fascination with Captain Fry that started the research with Gerry in 2019. The research expanded to include the soldiers, their wives and children and those connected to the military Depot in Weedon Bec, Northamptonshire and in the Napoleonic era.
Heritage weekends were held in village from 2014 where they (with other volunteers) worked hard to raise awareness of our village history. During these weekends the graves that had been researched, were cleaned and dressed in our churchyard and their research pinned beside each grave for people to read.
Sadly, we lost Susan unexpectedly on the 18th of November 2023 from a spontaneous brain haemorrhage.
Susan and Gerry were working on a booklet detailing the lives, burials and memorials of those they had found – (they were aware of up to 300 graves in connection with the Depot)
“We wanted to record their lives and service” Susan
It is our wish that this knowledge is not lost again and therefore are fundraising initially in the hopes of the eventual publication of their booklet as a tribute to Susan.
Any remaining funds from donations and purchases of the booklet to go towards a history fund in tribute to Susan Izzard specifically to help support history projects within Weedon Bec, Northants and support the continued publication of Susan and Gerry’s booklet.
We Will Remember Them…
