Susan Mason Solem needs transplant

Donation protected
Susan Solem is a loving wife and mom to her husband, Mark Solem, and her sons, Joshua & Andrew. She is not the type of person to ask for help, but she needs your help now. Susan and Mark have been married for almost 18 years, and were settling into "Mid-Life" busyness, with their boys entering the tween years. They have so much more life to live.

Susan was diagnosed with liver failure, here in the Cities, and worked with her primary doctor & specialist for several months up here before transferring down to Mayo Clinic.  Susan kept her diagnosis close to the heart, hoping and praying that her body would heal on its own.  After almost a year of ailing health, she realized this was not going away or getting better on its own.

She is hoping to find a living donor match. Mayo has indicated she does not qualify for a deceased donor's liver, at this time, because she is "too healthy". To get on the list, Susan has to complete several exams and dental work before her file goes in front of the Transplant Team.  Since her immune system is already suppressed/compromised, they will pay close attention to other illnesses to insure no bacteria will jeopardize or reject the transplant.

While most of her exams & procedures are partially covered through insurance, dental is not. Some of the money raised will help off-set this expense. Once she is issued the "All Clear", she will be at the ready when Mayo calls.

Susan will return to Mayo in July 2017 for approximately 5 days, for more testing. Since being diagnosed with liver failure,  the doctors also  found that she has an enlarged heart and a heart murmur.  Mayo will do additional testing around her heart to see how that will affect the status of her receiving a donated liver.

Susan has her ups and down days, and says it seems like the down days come more and more, with each passing week.  Susan is not working right now, which is driving her crazy. She will also need to stay at Mayo for her post-op follow-up.   The recovery time ranges from 3-6 months after surgery.  She will be out of work for a long time, along with Mark, because he will be with her for the first 3 months during the most critical time. She will be on anti-rejection medication for the rest of her life. These medications are extremely expensive. She does have insurance, but it does not cover all the expenses she will incur. Her husband Mark, is self-employed and has missed a lot of work because of all the appointments and education classes they require.

So there is a great financial need and that is where we can jump in and help!

Susan &  Mark have asked for your prayers;

First & Foremost for a living donor for Susan.

Prayers to keep her boys safe as they navigate all these emotions and questions.

Strength and wisdom for Mark.

That he would have someone close to him, and be a support for him. Someone he can confide in, and just be there for him.

Pray for their real estate business. This is their primary income and is what they rely on for their monthly & medical needs.  So please think of Mark, when you or someone you know is looking to purchase any real estate.  You will get excellent service and help their family as well.

If you feel led to support them financially, you may donate through this GoFundMe page.  Any amount is greatly appreciated.

But most of all, please pray for Susan and her family, and especially her boys. They are too young to have to deal with & process all of this.
