For Sustainable Farming in Papua

More than two millions of Papuan and West Papuan in Indonesia are threatened with starvation during the Covid-19 lockdown, when logistics delivered from outside region, especially rice, were disrupted.

Iwan Raus is the local mentor who has been active in Papua for decades, and he continues to assist community in need to produce alternative crops product and develop systems for local trading.

We are involved in fundraising for supporting this cause, to help farmers from Papua to form seed selection groups and post-harvest management with measurable quality and facilitate marketing.

Through this fundraising, the community will be able set up a sago stall to sell basic necessities using a barter system. The money from the sale of sago and other crops products will continue to circulate in the village, at relatively affordable prices. The barter results are sold in a larger market, for the sustainability of the village economy. At the same time, Iwan Raus will do mentorship and initiate training for the village community (several locations: Kampung Ibib, Kampung Yoboi, Skow Sae, Kemtuk Gresi sub-district, Papua, Indonesia).

The money needed is as much as Rp. 30,000,000 (equivalent to 2000,00 EUR) to be able to fulfil activities for the next 9 months, in 8-9 villages (total of 500 families) in Kemtuk Gresi sub-district, Papua, Indonesia. With the following details: Operational Costs (Transport, Meals, meetings, workshops), Cost of building a village's stall (in 8-9 villages), Cost of purchasing superior seeds, Cost of purchasing fertiliser.

This fundraising is needed to help with the costs for the next 9 months of the mentorship and community farming activism in order to increase the capacity of the village community. To deal with community problems based on local potential by encouraging families, who can be used as examples for other residents to build a decent life.
