Suzy Hackett Breast Cancer Fund
In early January, Suzy went in for a routine mammogram. She gets them regularly because she has the BRCA1 gene mutation. A year ago everything looked fine. This year there was something concerning.
After weeks of biopsies, MRIs, PET scans, more biopsies, and countless meetings with doctors at NYU, she’s been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. The Ki–67 index test says its aggressive .
The treatment will start with a double mastectomy. After that will be radiation and full spectrum chemo for a minimum of 6 months.
Suzy is an incredibly hard worker. At the moment she’s working 3 jobs as well as being a mom to her son Aiden. She’s bar tending at a wine bar in DUMBO, waiting tables at a restaurant in Brooklyn Heights, and showing apartments all over Brooklyn with the real estate license she got last year.
Although Suzy would like to keep working, the reality is that she is not going to be feeling well enough to do these jobs once the treatment begins. The loss of income will be devastating to her and her family.
She needs financial help, and she needs it now. Our fundraising goal is anticipating that she will not be working for 6-12 months while she recovers. We would like to take the worry of where she will get rent money and food for her family away so that she can focus on getting through this and getting healthy again.
