Mateo Hilts Benefit - No Retreat!
Donation protected
Our dear friend Lesley received devastating news this week: Mateo, her 9-yr old son, has leukemia (ALL). The last few days have been a whirlwind of doctors, surgery, information overload, and thankfully, love and support from friends & family.
Lesley adopted Mateo nine years ago. As a single mom, she exemplifies devotion, selflessness and hard work. She's an amazing mom! She is also a dedicated teacher of over 20 years, as well as a wonderful friend, daughter and sister. Lesley's expenses for Mateo's care will be enormous. This is a three-year battle, and despite having insurance (thank God!), there will be finanicial obligations beyond what insurance covers.
In the way that Lesley has given of herself in all areas of her life, we want to give to her... to lighten her load, to give her this support so all she needs to focus on is her beautiful son!
Please consider giving something; every little bit counts. And also consider sharing this via social media.
Thank you so much!

Hi Everyone,
First, I just want to say how truly blessed Mateo and I have been by the outpouring of love, support and prayers these last 24 hours. I am so grateful for my family and friends who have rallied around us.
Mateo and I were set to leave for Niagara Falls this morning, but after a week of stomach issues and a low grade fever, I finally brought him into the Children's ER at Sacred Heart yesterday. A blood test revealed leukemia.
It is still early in his diagnosis but the doctor indicated it is ALL which, if you have to have leukemia, it's the best to have.He will have surgery this afternoon where they will put a port in his chest, do a spinal tap, do a bone marrow biopsy and give him his first dose of chemo. The full treatment regimen spans over three years so we are in this for the long haul.
As you can imagine, we are still in shock. However, so many of you have been an important part of Mateo's life, and I wanted to let you know.
I will update as I know more.
Thank you you so much for your prayers and support!
