Jeff's Long Road to Recovery

While at work on April 2, 2024, our dear friend and family member, Jeff McLean was involved in a horrible injury. His lower legs were caught in an industrial shredder. After being freed from the machine, he was taken by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) and immediately rushed into surgery. The medical team made the difficult decision to amputate both legs below the knees in a 3-hour long surgery.

Jamie, his wife of nearly 25 years, has been with him at HCMC, as have his 2 sons and now his sister Janell, (who has traveled here by emergency from Florida).

In this early stabilization period, Jeff has had another 3.5 hour surgery, with yet another planned for Friday April 5th. The recovery process prognosis is still quite uncertain. Jeff could remain hospitalized for at least a week, but likely longer. After that, there will most likely be extensive & prolonged medical care including months of rehabilitation.

Looking ahead, so many modifications and adaptations will need to be considered for their future family life. In addition to meeting basic their needs, Jeff's mobility, housing, transportation, and employment must be thoroughly reviewed, investigated and re-fashioned.

Life for Jamie and their 2 sons is now irrevocably altered. Jamie will be Jeff's caregiver and advocate, necessitating much time away from work, with much assistance also needed from Kyle (20) and Brady (17).
