In loving memory of Barbara Chapman

On Tuesday, November 28, around 11 pm, my mom Renee, grandmother Barbara, and grandfather Jim were involved in a 1 car MVA. The car went off the road, through some trees and scrubs, and landed in the river. My grandma and grandpa were both life flighted to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta. My mom with no visible trauma at the time was sent to the ER then later life flighted to Erlanger Baroness Hospital for emergency surgery after CT scan showed internal bleeding.
My mom, Renee, had major abdominal internal bleeding and her aorta, a major artery, was torn. She is recovering from surgery well and the medical staff is confident that she can be moved from the trauma icu into a normal room in the next day or two. Her bleeding has seemed to stop, but they are still running tests to confirm and are monitoring her blood pressure to make sure her there isn’t anymore damage to her artery. She has been walking some with physical therapy, but is in a great deal of pain.
My grandpa, Jim, suffered some broken ribs and a broken shoulder. Luckily they all occurred on the left side of his body which was previously paralyzed from a stroke he suffered from several years ago. They will be most likely transferring him to a rehab facility in a few days to start his recovery.
It’s going to be a long recovery for the both my mom and grandpa physically and mentally, but they are both strong and are fighters. I’m so thankful for their amazing medical staff and all the support they have from friends and family.
My grandmother, Barbara, unfortunately passed away a few hours later. I am unsure of the extent of her injuries or what caused her death as of now. This news was very hard for me and my family. We’re all still very much in shock, but I think we’re finding peace that we know she’s not suffering.
I am creating this fundraiser to raise the funds needed for her memorial and cremation. Anything left over will be used towards the recovery and bills for my mom and grandpa. Anything given is highly appreciated in this rough time. Please share and send your thoughts and prayers towards the recovery of my mom and grandpa and for our family.
I will be adding a summary of her and her life on here shortly.
