The Sukulu Nature Reserve is a prominent wildlife and natural resource management sanctuary situated near Livingstone in Zambia. The reserve actively contributes to biodiversity conservation and wildlife management. Spanning an extensive area of 5000 hectares, the reserve boasts diverse ecosystems and houses a pioneering white rhinoceros breeding program, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country. Furthermore, the reserve is dedicated to reintroducing and revitalizing multiple vulnerable and endemic game species, a vital step towards preserving ecological equilibrium.
Central to its mission, the Sukulu Nature Reserve places great emphasis on safeguarding and nurturing the environment, aligning its efforts with regional and international policies on climate change mitigation, sustainable development, and poverty alleviation.
Notably, the reserve's distinctiveness lies in its pristine and untouched natural capital, a remarkable feat, considering its location in the Southern province, an area heavily impacted by deforestation and climate-induced adversities.
Strategically positioned, the Sukulu Nature Reserve enjoys proximity to captivating natural wonders, situated only 30 kilometers from the majestic Zambezi River and a 50 kilometers from the renowned Victoria Falls, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Despite its dedicated conservation efforts, the Sukulu Nature Reserve encountered challenges when it began its journey in 2012. A poaching incident occurred due to operational shortcomings related to preventive dehorning permits. In response, the reserve introduced dehorning as a vital conservation strategy to protect the rhinoceros from poaching threats. Undeterred by this initial setback, the reserve redoubled its efforts to safeguard its precious inhabitants.
Your donation can make a significant impact in protecting the white rhino and preserving its habitat. Your contribution will support vital conservation efforts, including:
Anti-poaching patrols to safeguard rhinos from poachers
Habitat restoration projects to ensure rhinos have safe spaces to roam
Community education and outreach programs to raise awareness and promote coexistence
Research initiatives to better understand rhino behavior and ecology.
No donation is too small. Your support, whether big or small, will directly contribute to the survival of the white rhino and the conservation of its habitat. Together, we can make a difference and secure a future where white rhinos thrive in the wild.
