SW Emergency Mutual Aid Fund
My name is Lynzo The Heartthrob and I am a Black LGBTQ+ dancer based in Chicago trying to find ways to aide Black/Brown sex workers during this time.
First I'd like to say thank you for the community's support these passed several months. We are seven months into the COVID-19 stay-at-home Quarantine orders. Sex workers have been negatively effected by the Quarantine for some time now. With the protests beginning this passed year and the current p*lice state rising, The ability to use online avenues is both a technological privilege and a great risk. For the WINTER MONTHS, Donations have slowed greatly however we are pooling other resources such as winter coats, blankets, & warm clothes to redistribute to these demographics as well.
Black Sex Workers, Trans Sex Workers, Disabled Sex Workers, & Brown Sex Workers are still working, are doing what they can to aide other colleagues in their times of need, & are exchanging resources/funds to where they are most needed. Most SWers do *not* qualify for the stimulus check and many are not receiving unemployment. Everyday, more and more Black/Brown Swers are crowdfunding for relief.
I made this GoFundMe because I realized there is no Mutual Aid fund for people based in the Chicagoland area yet I continue to see swers- aiding local bond funds, helping people get food/medical supplies, donate funds as well as asking for aide, seeking refuge, and are out physically protesting.
For Black/Brown SWers we see this type of r*cist discrimination in *VERY* intimate spaces because of the line of work. Police are not the answer to the dangers sex workers face due to the history of physical violence sex workers have been subject to at the hands of police. The aim of the Mutual Aid is to be able to directly send funds to Black/Brown sex workers with families, on the frontlines, organizing in their communities, providing aide to the community, and are in dire need of resources/funds to make it through.
"Black sex workers, Sex workers of color , and Trans Sex workers of color now face unique challenges during this pandemic. The intersection of being any of the named above means many face violence from police, racism, and risk of violence from clients who know workers are desperate to feed themselves and their families. They all also face higher risk of losing housing due to discrimination. Because of the violence and rapes most sex workers of color face from police, they are less likely to contact police when physically assaulted by a client. Include being a person who is homeless or disabled and they also have an added layer of possible violence and added discrimination."
- Quote from Venus Cuff
This industry and demographic are essential workers- who are organizing, paying bills, paying rent/mortgages, need groceries, need to feed the people who rely on their income, and are exhausted from the activism of being a Black sex worker.
I am asking for your help in donating to the people in an industry that does not secure their safety so that we can build an opportunity to relieve, feed, and aide Black/Brown SWers during this time.
Black Lives Matter. Trans Lives Matter. Disabled Lives Matter.
