Swainey needs a hand to fight cancer!

Hi I’m Ali and am friends with Swainey setting up this gofundme to get him through a dreaded cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Brett Swaine, Swainey, known by many other nick names, some of which are not suitable for this page. This man is a friend to all. A kind-hearted, positive, strong, generous, all-round great bloke who is loved by many. Friend or Family, it doesn’t matter, he is always there to lend a hand, or be the one friend you know you can always rely on to show up and support you, no matter what time of the day it is.

Swainey is known for being incredibly positive, even on the rough days. He inspires us all to get in and have a go, even when we fear we may fail. I know I am not alone when I say that his enthusiasm is contagious and like he has done many times before, he is out there giving it his all, to try and beat this horrendous disease.

In late August, early September 2022, Swainey started to experience severe lower abdominal pain. Through numerous trips to the hospital, being turned away and sent home with some painkillers as his symptoms mimicked those of “nothing serious”, a 15kg weight loss, numerous painful tests, and countless misdiagnosis, Swainey was eventually diagnosed with Stage 3 Rectal Cancer.

In November 2022, Swainey began 5 weeks of intense Chemotherapy (24/7) and in addition to that, was also undergoing Radiation treatment 5 days a week, with the hope that these treatments will slow the cancers growth and hopefully reduce it to an operable size.

At the time of his diagnosis, Swainey was a contractor at Moranbah North Coal Mine but has not been able to work throughout this gruelling treatment process.

The cost of radiation is not covered under Medicare or Private Health. Swainey has now had 4 weeks free from any Chemo or Radiation treatment but is about to enter another 4-month chemotherapy treatment cycle.

We are raising funds for Swainey to help him to afford his ongoing medical expenses, house bills, mortgage, and general cost of living while he is unable to work. Swainey has been using his savings to stay afloat whilst waiting for his diagnosis and since his journey is only just beginning, he will need financial support to pay his ongoing bills.

After Swainey completes his next round of Chemo, he will be required to have surgery in Brisbane which will also require excessive funds to complete, not to mention accommodation, flights, and medical equipment after surgery to permit follow up treatment.

We are asking you to help us support our dear friend as we cannot think of anyone who is more deserving. If you know Swainey, he has a very hard time asking for help. He has always been the one helping others and now it is time for us to repay the favour.
