Update- If you are gracious enough to donate, send me an email and I will provide you every few days specific updates on the repair work and the stories and lives impacted by your support, Including Photos.
WV friends and family. I headed up to Western NC the Tuesday after Helene to help with disaster relief in a mountain community called Swananoa. I have been here ever since. A quick google will show you the devastation Swananoa experienced and also the beauty that reminds me so much of areas near and dear to me in WV such as River Road. The people here share those unique mountain traits I observed daily in WV: brilliance, tough, resourceful, resilient, and loving.
Each day I “muck” out houses destroyed by the flood in order to speed up the needed repair work. I gut out dry wall, insulation flooring, and any furniture compromised by muddy flood river water.
When I get off, I run clean drinking water and supplies via the ole grey Mazda B3000 to individuals and families I have met in need. A huge need I am addressing is clean drinking water for churches and chefs who have pop up operations to cook and clean in the community and meant health regulations.
This is volunteer and I am looking to continue this work at least through November 30th. Any donations will go to support my efforts, gas, demolition tools, supplies, chainsaw maintenance…etc. I will ensure you receive photos, recaps, and stories of the people I am serving.
In summary, if the destruction Helene caused happened to Jefferson, Berkeley, and Morgan Counties, the local response would be the same. Pull and do whatever to help. Have peace.
