Sweet Shepherd Saved From Death Row in GA Needs Surgery
Donation protected
UPDATE: April 19TH
Thank you to everyone who has donated for Sage's care so far. We are almost halfway to the goal. All of the generous people who donated have helped save Sage's life. She was pulled from the shelter where she was going to be euthanized that very day. The surgeon said there was a great risk of infection since it was an open fracture, so we had to get her in for surgery immediately. The final cost of the surgery was $4969 and along with the boarding costs, the original vet visit (who sent the referral to the surgeon) and her spay (which is scheduled May 8th) and other expenses will bring the total to over $6,000. So every single dollar is very appreciated.
Sage had her first bandage change today and the vet said he was pleased.
We purchased her a lick sleeve that goes on her leg protecting it since the cone was disorienting her and causing the poor girl stress.
Thank you again to everyone - you are all appreciated more than you know! Please continue to share!!
On March 24th, officials at Gwinnett County Animal Shelter in Lawrenceville, GA received a call from a concerned citizen about a dog laying on the side of the road in Duluth, GA. Animal control arrived to find a sweet, young German Shepherd who had been hit by a car. She had no microchip or tags so was taken to animal control. X-rays at the shelter revealed tibia and fibia fractures in her left hind leg as well as a coxofemoral femoral luxation of her left hip. The shelter named her Sage. Sage sat in the over crowded shelter with her injury (thankfully the shelter administered pain meds) until April 1st when the last call was given. If Sage was still in the shelter on April 3rd, she would be euthanized. Caring volunteers shared Sage's photo asking for a rescue to help her. No rescue stepped up for this poor girl. Sage's photo was shared and a woman named Alison in Buffalo, NY saw the picture. Alison loves German Shepherds and wanted to adopt Sage. She was shocked no one was helping beautiful Sage. Even though there was no financial backing from a rescue, Alison didn't want to give up. With the help of people in Buffalo and Georgia, Sage was pulled from the shelter just in time. Sage went to a vet for an initial assessment, where her leg was set in a soft cast. She contracted kennel cough in the shelter, so she was given medication for that, too. Then Sage went to see Dr. Wayne Waguespack at Southeastern Veterinary Surgery Center in Columbus, GA. Dr. Waguespack will perform surgery on Sage's leg and hip Friday April 12th. It will be a very expensive surgery. There will be rehab costs and also there are boarding costs for Sage while she is in GA recovering from her surgery. This is a huge and unexpected expense. Alison has already paid for the initial vet visit, transport fees to Southeastern Veterinary Surgery Center and had to pay a deposit of $2500 for Sage's surgery. The minimum estimate for Sage's surgery is $4442.42 and the maximum estimate is $4987.58. We don't know the cost of rehab yet. And Sage will still need to be spayed before she comes up to start her new life in Buffalo. Alison is also paying boarding fees while Sage stays in Georgia. It is all very expensive but this sweet girl deserves a chance. Any donation is appreciated - no amount is too small. Even $1 will help this girl start her new life. Please share and thank you for any donation you can give.
