Swim From Catalina For Leukemia
Tax deductible
I ocean swim for a lot of reasons. Exercise, meditation, a way to be humble in a power greater than me. This time, I'm swimming for my father-in-law and thousands like him with Leukemia.
I am going to do something I have never done before. Swim 23 miles, (11 hours straight across open ocean), mostly at night, from Catalina to Palos Verdes to support the CLL Society, a powerful 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to many unmet needs of those touched by leukemia –and I could use your help.
Background:
Saul Levi , passed away from Leukemia April 15th, 2018, at 94 years old. Saul was my second chance at having a father -incredibly inspirational. He was a sailor in the Royal Indian Navy before he came to the U.S. to start work as a stock boy and go on to run operations at Westinghouse and become a serial entrepreneur. What is most striking about Saul is his integrity and his dedication to family. He has had a profound impact on our lives. Saul passed 12 years (to the day) after my father who also died of leukemia.
How your donation will help:
Your donation will support the CLL Society to help newly diagnosed families to make better decisions faster to live the longest life possible.
About the CLL Society:
The CLL Society is a non-profit founded by Dr. Brian Koffman, a leukemia survivor and physician, to help individuals and families affected by chronic lymphocytic leukemia find the best treatments by offering free expert access, education, research and peer to peer support.
About the 23-mile Catalina Crossing Solo Swim
To date, I have never swam more than three miles in the ocean. I have also never swam in the ocean at night. The rules from the Catalina Swim Association is that I do not wear a wetsuit and I do not touch anything other than food during the swim. Goggles, swimsuit, and food –that's the only support other than you, and in truth, I am not in my best shape and we only have 90 days left to prepare.
In support of this event, we invite you to send inspiration and donations so that together we can honor Saul and support the CLL Society. It's a powerfully effective way to help families searching for much needed support at a critical time.
Thank you for your inspiration, support and your donations.
Love, Stan
