Switch for COC Purple Friday
Donation protected
This year, SWITCH by NDT dancers has chosen to support the COC Nederland, a foundation that resonates deeply with our identity as a company. The COC is striving to provide safe and inclusive school environments for LGBTQ+ youth through their campaign - Purple Friday.
Unfortunately, LGBTQ+, gender non conforming and non binary youth still commonly experience bullying at school, up to twice as much as their gender conforming peers. The consequence of this bullying appears in the form of loneliness, depression and countless other psychological issues.
To combat this, the COC has been supporting Dutch pupils and teachers through their GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance) network. The GSA is a group of LGBTQ+ students and their straight allies who are committed to promoting safe, inclusive school environments for everyone. They focus on issues such as addressing gender norms, advocating for gender diverse toilets, inclusive textbooks and participating in national GSA campaigns.
One such campaign is Purple Friday. On the 2nd Friday in December every year, the GSA calls on all students and teachers to wear purple! This represents the belief that all people, no matter what their gender or sexual orientation, deserve to feel safe and included at school. This outward show of support aims to help students feel a greater sense of belonging and community within their school.
We, as SWITCH by NDT dancers, are excited to provide a platform for this wonderful campaign and raise money to show our support.
