Getting Barbara home
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Destiny, and I am here to ask for your help in bringing my grandmother, Barbara, back home to the UK to continue her recovery.
Barbara isn’t just my grandmother; she is my best friend and the woman who raised me and my sister. She became our guardian and has been the most loving, constant presence in our lives, giving us the care and guidance we needed from the time we were little. Right now, we’re separated from her by hundreds of miles, and we are heartbroken to be so far away during such a difficult time.
Barbara suffered a ruptured aneurysm on her flight to Corfu, where she was supposed to be having a holiday with my sister and her friend Carol. The flight had to make an emergency landing in Croatia, and she was rushed to the hospital, where she was placed in a medically induced coma.
After a week, doctors attempted to bring her out of sedation. At first, she showed signs of breathing on her own, but her condition worsened, and they had to put her back under and perform a tracheotomy. The surgery went well, but she is still unable to come home, and being so far from her has left us feeling helpless.
Unfortunately, our insurance has refused to cover the cost of bringing her home, and we’ve been advised to hire a medical repatriation company, which has quoted us between 30,000–34,000 GBP. We simply don’t have this kind of money, and every day that passes is another day we cannot be by her side, holding her hand or speaking to her, as she remains in a coma.
Please, if you are able, help us bring Barbara home so that she can be surrounded by her family during her recovery. Every bit raised will go directly toward her medical transport, allowing her to return to the place where she is loved and supported, and where she belongs.
all funds raised will be used to transport my grandmother home to us in Nottingham where she can continue her recovery surrounded by family and friends.
Thank you for anything you can give or even for sharing our story.
With all our hearts,
Destiny and Family
