Ricardo A. Sanchez Sr. was born in Coahuila, Mexico in 1941 - born during a time of war and uncertainty across the world. At a young age, he helped support his parents and family by raising chickens and selling crates of eggs door-to-door. By the age of 14, he didn’t quite live a typical childhood and took the risk of traveling to the United States in pursuit of the American dream.
In 1955, Ricardo arrived at Eagle Pass, Texas and fell in love with American culture! Though he enjoyed listening to Rock n’ Roll and Country hits from Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, he never lost sight of his Mexican roots and equally enjoyed classics from Julio Jaramillo, Trio Los Panchos, and Javier Solis.
It was during this time when Ricardo sought out labor-intensive jobs such as working in the fields under the blazing sun across the Midwest, and lastly making his way to California to work at the infamous Del Monte Cannery.
In 1962, Ricardo embarked in his career at the Del Monte Cannery. He began working in the warehouse and later became a “Jeepero.” Towards his final years before retiring, he worked as a crew leader. It was during his time at Del Monte that he couldn’t help but falling in love with a beautiful woman named Elena who he went on to marry in the summer of 1982.
Ricardo Sr. was a man who was strong of character, but nevertheless loving and kind to all. He was a true Taurus - a stubborn yet sensitive bull! He enjoyed live horse racing, American baseball, and the Mexican soccer league. He was a man with a heart of gold who came to the United States to make sacrifices and help provide for his family. Despite being a private person, he was affectionate in his own way and loved all of his family and friends, especially his grandson Oliver who was his best friend.
Mr. Ricardo A. Sanchez passed away on July 19, 2022 of multiple health complications including heart and kidney failure. He leaves behind his grandson Oliver, his three daughters Sonia, Beatriz and Pilar, his son Ricardo Jr., and his loving wife Elena.
Ricardo (dad), you will forever remain the love of our lives, our protector and the foundation of our loving family.
