Help Me Save My Family Home

Donation protected
My father is one of the most compassionate and hardest working people I know. He is the type of dad who would wake his kids up on a Sunday morning to breakfast and retro tunes playing from the kitchen. He's the type of dad who calls his kids 4x a week to see if they are okay and indulges us in our Millennial and Gen Z woes. He is a friend to our friends and often finds himself as the wise sage amongst his friend circles. My father is a great many things, but in a few months, he will be someone homeless with nowhere to go.

In September of 2019, my mother surprised our entire family with her sudden decision to leave my father after he lost his job. Soon after her departure, my father discovered that my mother had failed to make mortgage payments for months, leaving him thousands in debt, destroying his credit, and putting our entire family on the brink of homelessness. My father has no debt besides this, but unfortunately, the unpaid mortgage destroyed his credit to where he is unable to qualify for a place to rent if evicted.

However, despite these hardships, my father continued to keep his head high for me and my 5 siblings and tirelessly searched for ways to earn enough money to simply make ends meet. While my father tried to stay positive and kept telling my siblings and I that something positive is along the horizon, times fell even harder as COVID-19 made finding any employment almost impossible. Though my father’s unemployment was lengthened, and expenses maximized due to the pandemic, he did not qualify for the additional COVID-Relief Unemployment Benefit as he had lost his job just before the pandemic. My father, lacking a reliable means of transportation, putting his health at risk by taking public transportation and going to great lengths for temporary job opportunities to simply put food on the table for my 13-year old sister and 19-year old brother. My siblings and I have tried to help my father by taking out loans and searching for work, but with myself graduating this past May in the current economy I could only do so much.

Today, my father informed me that he is not sure how much longer he can go on barely scraping by. While my father has tried to stay positive through this all, we now face the reality that my father, my little sister, and my little brother may become homeless. Though I would offer my father and siblings to stay with me, I live on the other side of the country and have been experiencing housing insecurity since this past June after graduating. My father is a valiant man, but there is only so much a person can handle. Those who have had the opportunity to meet my father know him to be a selfless man with an enormous heart; giving as much as he can to those in need; fixing computers as favors to friends; babysitting family friends’ children so that they could work; paying for and fixing a broken window to help a struggling single mother; taking care of his ailing parents and bearing the burden of their respective funerals; saving every penny he had to fund my 11th-grade journalism trip to DC and even driving me 8 hours there and back to participate in the program; supporting my siblings by paying for and attending as many of our extracurricular events as possible; encouraging my siblings and me in our pursuit of higher education, and providing us unconditional support in our decisions and being my strongest advocate to pursue my dreams of attending USC.

Not once has my father asked for a cent from anyone nor for anything in return, which is why I am begging you right now to please help my selfless father and helping me ensure that he and my siblings do not become homeless. I understand these are trying times for everyone, but I hope that you find it in your heart to help my father be it donating or sharing this GoFundMe or by helping him find stable work. My father is a very intelligent and hardworking man and is more than capable to perform if given the opportunity to work.

Thank you so much for your time and thank you in advance for all your support. -Nile
