Help For Hunter !

Hi, I am Nanny to Hunter..... I have decided to set up a ‘ Go Fund Me Page’ in the hope of raising funds and awareness for my grandson Hunter.

His story started when my daughter went into early labour at 24+ 3 weeks; she was rushed to UCLH hospital, where she gave birth at 25 + 1 weeks on the 5th March at 10:08 pm, weighing in at 750grams.

We had 10 NICU specialists, doctors, and nurses. He was placed into a neonatal plastic bag immediately after birth to regulate his temperature. I was there throughout, at my daughter Chloe’s side.

Chloe was only allowed a 5-second glimpse at her newborn child before he was rushed to intensive care. She was not allowed to see him straight away; it took four attempts to intubate him successfully. Then it was a total 6 hours before she could meet him  in the Neonatal intensive care unit.

Hunter stayed in UCLH for one month, where we visited him every day, my daughter sitting at his side 12-14 hours a day and then travelling back and forth to Hemel Hempstead.

He was then transferred to Great Ormond Street as he acquired a life-threatening infection, Necrotising Enterocolitis. My grandson then had to be put in “induced paralysis” to enable him to be transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital; this was to maintain his saturation levels.

If he had not already suffered enough, Hunter had to endure an operation to insert a long line through his thigh through to near his heart. This was so that he could have fluids pumped around his body due to being nil by mouth.

He was too poorly to be moved from his bed in intensive care at Great Ormond Street as the infection had taken hold. Therefore, the operation had to be performed at his bedside and not in theatres. He pulled through.

He fought the infection with antibiotics. He had over 15 blood transfusions in his hospital stays.

Finally, after 5 weeks, Hunter was transferred to Watford General Hospitalnearer to home. We were informed to expect that he could be blind and mentally disabled.

He had a feeding intolerance, bone disease, retinopathy of prematurity and chronic lung disease at the point of discharge. Alongside his multiple blood transfusions, he also had a small PDA of the heart.

Hunter eventually made it home! However, there  was still complications as he was on portable oxygen for 6 months. My daughter had to perform CPR three times on her baby to save his life in this timescale. Once, she was driving to Asda and had to do this in the car park.

Hunter is our miracle baby and is now 4; he has now developed OCD traits, behaviour problems, and communication difficulties. In addition, he struggles with his speech and understanding and displays many typical traits of Autism.

He was assessed a little while ago, and we were told there is a high chance he has this. However, we want to get the help for Hunter at school and out of school and to do this we need to have him assessed privately due to the NHS list being at least two years long.

To help raise funds, I will walk ‘Snowdonia’ in Wales on the 15th of June to try and raise £2000.00 so that we can get a private assessment and have this confirmed, which will enable Hunter to get all the help he needs can.

I feel my grandson Hunter has been through so much that he could have had more complications than anticipated. He needs this assessment so we can access all the relevant help he needs so that he can flourish to his best potential. So please, if you can, please sponsor me and let’s give Hunter the support he deserves.

If I get over the target fund  the money over will go to additional follow up costs and developmental items needed for hunter
