Sydenham Sportsmen Fish Hatchery # 3 Roof Collapse & Rebuild
Donation protected
On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the Sydenaham Sportsmen's Association lost the hatchery #3 roof and walls due to the excessive snow volume we have recently encountered in Owen Sound Area We are currently working with Insurance, however the full funding of construction for the hatchery will cost more than we will receive.
It is difficult to imagine, in hindsight, the tremendous amount of effort and dedication put forth by the volunteer members of the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association during this period of development and operation of their fish hatcheries.
The hatcheries are a full twelve month operation, with eggs taking from wild fish in both the spring and fall of the year – Rainbow Trout in the spring and Chinook Salmon in the fall. Fish stocking also occurs at various times of the year and adds to that a full schedule of hatchery duties and maintenance. To date, the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association has raised and stocked millions of fish, including Chinook Salmon, Rainbow and Brown Trout and Skamania from their volunteer run community hatchery into the Sydenham and Pottawatomi Rivers and Georgian Bay Tributaries. If anyone is interested in assisting in financial support to the Sydenham Sportsmen's Association in their efforts to reconstruct the Fish Hatchery, all donations would be greatly appreciated.
All funds raised will go directly to the fish hatchery operations and stocking program. Thank you from the SSA.
