I’m Miranda and I have the distinct privilege of being the aunt of two awesome little kids. My niece, Sydney, is a beautiful, resilient, and strong girl who is working toward a seizure free life.
Sydney is a two-year-old full of smiles and determination. When Sydney was four months old, she started having focal seizures. At six months, she was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms, a serious seizure disorder. After multiple hospitalizations for diagnostic purposes and expensive medications, the Infantile Spasms have been resolved.
Sydney has developmental delays and attends seven different therapy sessions (physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy) each week to help her gain those needed skills. She experienced great progress through an intensive therapy program in May and continues to improve. Sydney still experiences several seizures weekly and was recently hospitalized for a week of extensive testing to determine her next course of treatment, which we recently learned the next step will likely be brain surgery.
The next step requires several days in Ohio and possibly a trip further downstate to make some final decisions. Needless to say, the cost of hospitalizations, intensive therapy sessions, medications, out-of-state trips, and weekly therapy appointments can be daunting for a young family.
Through it all, Sydney smiles and loves to play with her four-year-old brother, Jude.
We’d love your consideration of donating to Sydney’s care and adding her to your prayer list.
