Trekking for Wildlife

This group of 6 youngsters is trekking 680km over 6 weeks through difficult terrain to raise money for a Search-and-Rescue/ All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) which will be used to rescue wildlife in need of assistance.  One of the trekkers is my son, Connor.

In the 2020 Black Summer Fires, Sydney Wildlife Search & Rescue teams had to carry heavy rescue gear and darting equipment across many kilometres in search of fire-affected wildlife. They also had to carry heavy kangaroos and wallabies (that had been sedated ) across the fire grounds to get them to the triage facilities - one of which was our very own Sydney Wildlife Mobile Care Unit.

The boys are raising money to buy an electric All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) to help Sydney Wildlife with Search & Rescue efforts and transportation of sedated wildlife across difficult terrain.  The Board of Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife Services have been consulted and are very pleased for the support!

If they are successful in raising the full $20, 000 they will transfer the funds to the treasurer of Sydney Wildlife so that they can purchase a suitable electric ATV and trailer.  (The vehicle needs to be electric as it is imperative to keep noise levels to a minimum when tracking wildlife for darting and transportation.)

The boys have chosen to do the Australian Alpine Walking Track (AAWT) because many parts of the alpine region were affected by the Black Summer fires.  In fact, the end point of the 680km trek (Namadji Visitor Centre) was closed for months after fires damaged the region.  The trek will span 3 states - VIC, NSW and the ACT!
