Sylvia Santiago's Recovery Fund

Beloved friends and family, this campaign is to help with Sylvia's COVID-19 recovery. Sylvia had a major surgery to remove a tumor from her back and was recovering with flying colors before being diagnosed with COVID-19 while recovering at a Rehabilitation Hospital. She was then transported to the hospital where things seemed to progress extremely fast. Sylvia went from joking around and looking forward to going home to being placed on a ventilator after her vitals plummeted. Sylvia's rapid decline while in the ICU was a shock to anyone that knows her. To make matters worse, Sylvia's kidneys started failing in addition to her body trying to fight off COVID-19. Dialysis was started in an attempt to save her kidneys. After several days of the unknown, we received wonderful news that Sylvia's body was responding to the dialysis and her kidneys were improving. Sylvia showed so much strength and courage throughout this battle and it was starting to pay off. Doctor's decided to try and remove the ventilator to see if Sylvia's lungs could function on their own even if it were just a small amount. Well, they did, and she made her fight to survive clear; we all knew she was going to pull through. She was then moved to the ICCU where she continued to fight off the infection that was attacking her body. While continuing to show signs of improvement, Sylvia was recently moved to a lower level of care floor, which is a major step in her recovery process. Sylvia's journey to full recovery is still a long one at that, but we all have no doubt that it will continue to be one step closer as each day passes. Sylvia will most likely have an extended leave from work and be on additional unplanned medications as well as oxygen, which is very costly. With the health insurance change this year, she will have to pay more out of pocket due to her medical issues. Thank you for all of your prayers and thoughts along the way.
