Sylvia- Super Teacher!

Donation protected
Hi everyone! If you know me, you have likely heard about my friend (and Charlotte’s daycare provider), Sylvia. For of you who have not, here is a quick recap: Sylvia moved into the Brooksedge neighborhood in June of 2019. Not even ONE week after moving in AND HAVING “NO CHILDREN” that week so she could move in, she received a notice from the HOA stating that neighbors have been complaining, and their declarations state that there are no businesses to be run out of the home. Strange, right- since she had not yet been caring for any children and it was her first week. Sylvia reached out SEVERAL times to the association to try and resolve the issue. She explained that her father (who was in his upper 80’s), son (who is on the autism spectrum) and her younger brother (also neuro divergent) all had special needs that require her to be available at home, and would they be willing to make accommodations for her? Well….the request for her civil rights to not be infringed upon was met with radio silence (basically) until she heard from them via the Licking County Court. They were suing her. Unfortunately, the judge made a ruling before discovery was completed and before she could update her counter claims once it was discovered that “neighbors” have not been complaining.

The actual complaint started with someone that had personal issues with Sylvia (I won’t even get into what this addict did to my friend, but be wary of those you feel you need to “save”) and that person made the HOA aware of the child care (6 or less children) that Sylvia does from her home. This person with known problems with drugs and alcohol happens to know a member of the board…isn’t that a coincidence?!?!? So, the board has gone as far as to SOLICIT OTHER NEIGHBORS TO LODGE COMPLAINTS and have admitted that they only received one (and will NOT identify who that was from) complaint.

So, of course, Sylvia is appealing the ruling that was rendered in the HOA’s favor. During this appeal process, we have made waves and are continuing to make the community aware of the situation, but this is where you come in. When the first appeal was filed Sylvia had to pay a $5000 supersedeas bond to be able to keep doing the work that she loves and is VERY, VERY good at (those of you who know me KNOW how much I appreciate her and what she has taught and done for, my daughter!), which is wild, as these bonds are typically reserved for larger monetary awards and not small civil cases. This allows her to keep caring for kids while the case is appealed. Again, this woman is PAYING to work! As the HOA pursues this pettiness, they are going in even harder and are asking for AN INCREASE to the supersedeas bond of $2500. It is, again, required for her to continue to care for children from her home.

Well, as you can imagine, this is getting harder to financially support and the mental fatigue of it all is just overwhelming! Guys, I am not lying when I tell you that these board members have absolutely crossed boundaries! They have recorded, not only her, but the CHILDREN that have gone into her home (creepy AF, right???), they have stalked and harassed her like nothing I have ever before encountered. They have unknowingly told one of Sylvia’s FRIENDS that they were actively working to get her out of the neighborhood. And she deserves better. Guys, PLEASE consider donating to this cause…just a couple dollars could really accumulate. This woman is amazing and our KIDS deserve to be together in these formative years. Love you all!

Note to add: We actually went door to door to collect signatures in the neighborhood to amend the declaration that is effecting her business, and nearly 50% of the neighbors support an amendment to the Declarations, but the board would not even discuss it be able to bring it for a vote in their last meeting.
