Syria to Ukraine to Canada: Reuniting A Family

Hi, I'm Jim and I'm part of a small group of people in Toronto who need your help to reunite a family separated by war – first in Syria, now in Ukraine.

 

Three years ago, we helped a young woman named Maram come to Canada as a refugee from Syria. She travelled alone, her family scattered to different countries.

 

Maram’s brother, Wesam, left Syria for Ukraine, where he worked to support their parents and other siblings who had moved to Lebanon. Nine years ago, Wesam married Olesia and they built a life together in Dnipro.

 

Their peaceful life was disrupted when Russia invaded. Wesam and Olesia fled from Dnipro to Amsterdam via Poland. They had to leave everything behind, bringing only their two cats with them.

 

After so much upheaval, you can imagine how much Maram wants Wesam and Olesia to be safe. We are organizing the required documents to bring Wesam and Olesia to Canada and we have a place for them to live.

 

We need money for one year of housing and living expenses, which we estimate will be $20,000. That will cover airfare, rental of a one-bedroom apartment ($1,500/month) and $500/month for each of them to spend on groceries and other living expenses.

 

Any amount you can donate will help and will be so appreciated! If all goes well, Wesam and Olesia could be here by July.

 

We must reach our $20,000 goal so that they can be together with Maram in safety after so many years apart.
