Nepal Earthquake: Sindhu village

Donation protected
The Cause:
As you know Nepal has been hit by a devastating earthquake of 7.8 richter scale magnitude. This is the biggest natural disaster to strike Nepal in our lifetime, possibly the deadliest in history for an impoverished nation. While pictures of devastation in Kathmandu come into light, we must not forget that there are many villages and rural areas in the hills of Nepal that will also need our help.

Many of our families, including my great grandfather who lives there, have lost their homes. Most of the village is in rubbles, with only a few houses standing. This gofundme campaign is to support villagers in Bhotechaur area of Sindhupalchowk district of Nepal towards relief effort and also to help rebuild their lives. The pictures attached are from the village.

Any help will be very much appreciated and where your donation goes will be made transparent as we get aid to the villagers. I will update the campaign with pictures as we make progress.

Who am I:
My name is Rupesh Gajurel. I am from Nepal, currently live in Brooklyn, NY. Like many Nepalis, I have family and friends back in Nepal. It's terrible to see our close ones living in fear during this tragic event. I am also the co-founder of MapNepal , a growing community we started with friends to help create better maps in Nepal back in 2013. We created the community because we have always been fearful of an impending earthquake to strike Nepal and wanted to help create a better map for the capital city, Kathmandu, during disaster relief. It is unfortunate our fear has become a reality. I would like to assure you that I will do my best to ensure the money goes to the villagers who need it the most. My sister, Rakshya, is in Nepal and will be help with connecting the fund directly to the villagers or via a trusted local NGO. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

A typical house in the village. This picture was taken by my sister, Rakshya, just a week before the Earthquake hit the area. Most houses are built out of clay and structurally very weak.

A small farm in the village. Also taken a week ago.

The following pictures taken recently show the aftermath of the quake.
