Ashbourne Suicide Awareness and Prevention

The men's senior section of Ashbourne United FC are conducting a spinathon for Ashbourne Suicide Awareness and Prevention on Saturday the 16th of December outside Tesco, Ashbourne with a view to raising as much funds as possible.

Ashbourne Suicide Awareness and Prevention - also known as ASAP - had its genesis in the fact that we have had tragic losses within our society through suicide. In response to this, ASAP was set up in August 2018.

We are living in a time where mental health issues have never been so prevalent. ASAP's chairperson, Eugene Kennedy, felt helpless as a father standing on the sideline looking at what was happening around us. We are losing members of our community to suicide and many others are struggling to cope with everyday life.
Eugene was deeply saddened by it all and felt compelled to take action. Having approached a number of local people, together they formulated a group with the aim of raising awareness and creating a community that supports those in need.

The group established a mission statement focusing on creating a safe space that will raise awareness through initiatives in education and information and to inspire those who are suffering to seek the help they urgently require.

ASAP is still in its infancy but together, we can help achieve positive mental health in our community.

Let's talk about depression even on our good days. It's ok not to be ok.
