Adam’s Road to recovery

Donation protected
Friends and Family of Adam Plybon,
We know many have been asking about Adam’s health, so we wanted to give an update on his condition and also make a plea for some help. Sometime this past weekend, Adam suffered a large ischemic stroke, meaning he threw a blood clot to his brain. This blood clot affected the left side of his brain, causing damage to his speech centers and motor function to the right side of his body. Right now, Adam is unable to communicate or effectively use the right side of his body. He is currently receiving care in the Medical ICU at St. Elizabeth where he is getting IV medications, including a blood thinner in an attempt to dissolve the clot that caused the stroke, and another medication to decrease the swelling of his brain. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you that Adam is on the road to recovery yet, but we can tell you that when he gets to that point, the road ahead looks difficult and long. From conversations with speech and physical therapists, when Adam is healthy enough to be discharged from the ICU, and then eventually from the hospital, he will be placed at a rehab facility to hopefully learn to speak again and regain use of the right side of his body.
And now the call for help. If you know Adam, you know he’s a bartender by trade, and has been a bartender at Hofbrauhaus in Newport for years. Unfortunately, he has little to none in the way of savings to weather this type of catastrophic medical event. Our family can provide for him in the short-term, but this current disability does not have an expiration date in sight. So our ask is for your help. To gift Adam the time to recover both physically and mentally. If you know Adam personally, you know he wouldn’t want to ask for help. So we are asking for him.
It would be amazing if we could give Adam some breathing room on the medical and personal bills that don’t stop coming just because you’re sick. We know it’s a terrible time to ask for money, but it would make a great difference to him during his recovery process. And honestly, we all need him back to full strength so he can tell us the latest terrible joke that he just made up.
With love and hope,
Adam’s siblings,
Corey, Chelsea, Casey, Caitlyn, Emily, and John
