Matt Wallace before the ARCA test in Daytona January 2016. Matt Wallace at Daytona
Hi Everyone!
Meet 20 year aspiring driver Matt Wallace and full time college student. Matt is the son of Mike and Carla Wallace out of Concord, NC. You might of heard the name Wallace Family before, Mike is a 25 year veteran of the NASCAR world.
Matt has been wanting to follow in the families footsteps of becoming a NASCAR driver. Over the last few years, Matt has shown his talent by winning races in the Late Model Series, including 2nd in Track Championship at I-44 Speedway in Missouri.
February 2015, by raising funds and small sponsorships, Matt loaded up his truck and trailer with a couple of guys and drove down to New Smyrna Speedway in Florida for Speedweeks. Having small funds while working on the car himself and a couple of guys and going out competing, Matt brought home a win in Speedweeks at the age of 19!
Matt competed for Kimmel Motorsports in the ARCA series for 2 races as he was able to find sponsorship for the opportunity. In his first ARCA race, he brought home a top 10!
After the win and ARCA races it opened some eyes and Matt was approved to race 1 mile tracks for NASCAR; however that is not as easy as it sounds with in todays world you get the opportunity when you bring funds to the table for opportunities. Matt was given an opportunity to drive in a couple Xfinity races and was then approved by NASCAR for even larger tracks as he shown the talent he has to compete and race in a clean, safe manor.
While a lot of Matt's racing comes from him raising funds on his own, family would contribute what they could to help Matt aspire in his dreams. In April 2015, Mike had to have emergency triple by-pass surgery and taken off the track for 2015; talk about a nerve wracking time and turn your world upside down in a moment eye.
While off the track, Mike has help coach Matt in his racing of how the car handles, what to look for and guidance.
Matt went to Daytona for the open ARCA test with the opportunity to test for Cunningham Motorsports, January 16, 2015. Loaded up in Matt's truck, Mike and Matt along with a good friend who just returned home from the military took to the roads for the 8 hour drive to Daytona. Now keep this in mind....Matt has NEVER been on the track to race at Daytona. First time in the car, Matt gets on the track and jumps to 2nd on the leaderboard! Wait, what?! Yes, TALENT, EAGER, GOOSEBUMP TALENT!
So you ask what does all of this long story mean? It means Matt is trying to raise funds to go to Speedweeks at New Smyrna in February and raise funds to compete in the ARCA race at Daytona. Every dollar counts these days and is heartfelt and greatly appreciated. The money is used for fuel, travel expenses (see these boys driving down I-85 :)) and an opportunity to makes dreams come true.
We all have dreams! Whether it be a singer, dancer, firefighter, teacher, parents, actor/actress and even race car driver; you know how much it would mean for that to come to reality. So let's help this young man make his dreams come true so he can then help others do the same!
We cannot begin to tell you how much we first off appreciate everyone's support night now through postive facebook posts, twitter, texts, emails, it all means so much to us. And to be able to see this intellegent ambitious young man be able to see his dreams come to life means more than anything.
