A Life of Meaning

Donation protected
I have always felt a deep calling to live a heroic life; courageously pursuing my dreams, inspiring and supporting everyone I encounter, and having a significant impact on society. As a young man though, I did not have the traits to embark on such a journey. I was wrought with fear of failure and thus apprehensive to risk my pride in relentless pursuit of my aspirations. I took the comfortable route, doing things I was good at with minimal effort and always leaving myself an out if I didn’t “succeed.” Continually selling myself short and not living up to my inner calling took its toll and surfaced in the form of a substance addiction. Little did I know, this would be the greatest gift I have ever received. Going to the depths of hell, nearly losing my mind along the way, was the first impetus in stepping out of my comfort zone and taking action to effect change in my life.

Since July 12, 2013 I have been on the road of recovery and realigning with the call to greatness I have always felt. I re-tapped my innate faith, courage, commitment and discipline during intense introspection and cleaning of my psyche. Although I was frightened by what I might find, I persisted in my search and shared my findings with a confidant. I further solidified my willingness to risk failure by returning to school after a two-year hiatus. Thanks to the traits I nourished early in sobriety I completed my degree, meeting my performance goals. I also secured a position in a technical field with little relation to my area of study, but in which I wanted to further explore my level of interest. Through the qualities that have been reignited over the past couple of years, I am now able to meet my responsibilities head on, inspire and support my loved ones, mentor young leaders, and guide fellow addicts on the road of recovery. But, I have been called to do more, to face yet another challenge that will arm me with additional experience to heroically share with the world. I cannot do it alone though. I need your help getting to, and through, Acton School of Business with success.

Acton is much more than the typical MBA program. The program is focused on developing entrepreneurs who have a profound impact on the world, a strong sense of responsibility for the evolution of civil society, and live a meaningful life while making money. Acton teaches students the ins and outs of building a business by using the case study and Socratic methods; solving real world problems and making informed yet difficult decisions. The program believes in getting its students back into the world ready to flourish with their new knowledge and ability to handle the intensity of starting a successful business -- typical workweeks in the second semester range from 80 to 100 hours. The curriculum also includes a yearlong class dedicated to aiding students in the discovery of their personal Life of Meaning. Acton fosters a culture of dedication, curiosity, focus, responsibility and intentionality amongst its members. These traits are key not only for graduating, but also being impactful in life after. Everyone I have talked to that has been through the curriculum says it is one of the best things they have ever done for themselves, both personally and professionally. The principles and methods that Acton teaches prove to have merit, as the program has consistently been ranked in the Princeton Reviews top MBA programs, specifically having the Most Competitive Students (first in 2016) and Best Administered Program (second in 2016).

What I am asking for is the money to secure my place in the Spring 2016 cohort at Acton, which needs to be delivered to the school no later than November 13, 2015. Your donations will not go unrecognized, nor the generosity unreturned. You will have my most heart felt gratitude, willingness to help you in any way I possibly can, and promise to pay it forward to the those following in my footsteps. I intend to use my newfound knowledge and skills to help people and organizations in need and as part of my life of meaning.

Thank you for your generosity and I will be sure to keep you updated as the year progresses.
