Karsyn’s Medical Expenses

As many of our friends and family know, in late 2021 Karsyn was diagnosed with a very rare connective tissue cancer called Sclerosing Epithelioid Fibrosarcoma.

While Karsyn was wrapping up her first semester at University of Missouri, she began showing symptoms of jaundice, which led the school health center to investigate a potential liver injury. Ultrasounds showed abnormalities and later Karrin and Phil brought Karsyn home where she was seen by the incredible doctors at St. Louis Children's Hospital. After a five day stay at the hospital and numerous scans we found out Karsyn has a large tumor on her liver and a transplant would be needed, as this type of tumor is not typically responsive to radiation therapy or chemotherapy. There are no other masses or abnormal cell activity and we are currently focused on the localized liver mass.

The Liver Transplant Program at SLCH is currently evaluating Karsyn as a possible liver transplant candidate. After the evaluation the multidisciplinary team will meet to discuss the information gathered from evaluation and whether Karsyn can be listed on the liver transplant list with the United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS).

Those who know Karsyn would describe her as an extremely driven young woman. She is only seventeen and graduated high school a year early and went off to college with big aspirations - she is even going back to campus until she is called for her surgery. We know nothing can stop her from achieving her dreams, not even cancer. She has handled every bit of news with humor and grace, she has a challenging journey ahead but is optimistic for the future.

Many friends and family members have reached out asking how they can help so we have set up this fund to help with the medical expenses for Karsyn's treatment. We thank each and every person who has reached out to us with your thoughts and prayers, gifts, meals, and kind words. Karsyn and the Williams family are so fortunate to have such loving people by their sides during this tough time.
