Tillacum Village Field Trip
Donation protected
We are raising money to take two special education classes on an end of year field trip to Tillicum Village. We come from Asa Mercer International Middle School, located on Beacon Hill in Seattle, Washington. We are a Title 1 school where 74% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. Of the students going on the trip, 40% live in Section 8 housing or in homeless shelters. 1 student is in the foster care system, living in a group home since February. All of the students come from single family homes with multiple siblings. We want to be able to offer our students a memorable end of year field trip.
Our students belong to two classes because they struggle with cognitive, emotional, and behavioral disabilities. They have made fantastic progress over the year and are able to attend mainstream classes with their peers with little or no adult support. They've worked hard to improve their reading and math scores and many have made multiple years' worth of growth through this academic year.
We are hoping, with your help, we can take them on an Argosy boat cruise to visit Tillicum Village , a NW Native American cultural experience. Our students have been studying our state history. We’ve been learning about the native cultures that influence our city as we know it. We’re even named after peaceful Duwamish tribal leader, Chief Seattle. The village is a unique NW adventure and includes a salmon lunch buffet; something special most of the students won't get to experience again any time soon.
We appreciate any support you can offer! And a big thank you from all of our students!
