SPECIAL HELP NEEDED FOR DIESEL! As you all know, we have been working with Diesel since he came into rescue 4/2/2015. If you remember he was in a terrible municipal shelter on Long Island where he was all but forgotten in his kennel. Before that he was neglected by this owner. It was an all hands on deck operation to get him from the shelter. We were told he was healthy, submissive and he came in with a “buddy”. Well it turned out he was heartworm positive, had raging ear infections and a horrible UTI. He could not hold his urine and he was just miserable. It was so sad. His buddy may have been too aggressive, and he was bit at the shelter resulting in some damage near his eye – luckily just skin was involved, and his vision is fine. NESHR started his medical treatment right away. To date his medical expenses are over $3,000.00, double our first campaign request. Now, the good news! His recent blood work came back negative for heartworms, so it looks like the treatment is working! But now, the true work begins for him. He was on medical restriction and ill for so long, we were not able to fully understand his personality. He needs some work. He is a bit pushy (large boy) – and unsure about what his boundaries are. He gets mouthy and downright cranky when he is pushed to do something he truly doesn’t want to do. Now that his medical foster is complete – we have decided to get Diesel the extra help he needs to find his forever home, and become a well-adjusted, amazing family member for some lucky humans out there. We will be sending Diesel to BOOT CAMP! It is a structured environment, with a home like setting. Diesel will learn manners, boundaries, basic commands, proper coping skills and how to truly be a DOG! All this while getting treats and positive reinforcement – we don’t believe in forceful training methods.
With that being said, we are forced to once again, ask for your help. His medical treatments have exhausted all his funds. We see the shining star he is below the rusty exterior. He needs to be polished and he will be. Without your help, he would have been in pain and left alone in a shelter. Please help us again.
